Denis definitely learned a couple things from his time on The Job - First, go to cable. Second, dark and edgy plays much better in a drama than a comedy - plus, you get a full hour in the time slot! Darker, edgier, and far more controversial than The Job, Rescue Me has been both lauded and hated by critics, but seems to pack in the requisite millions of viewers to make the FX network happy to keep funneling money in its direction. Set in New York City following the 9/11 attacks, Rescue Me follows the life of a dysfunctional firefighter and the members of his family and crew. Alternating between sad, funny, and excrutiatingly painful, Rescue Me is evidence that it's FX, and not TBS, that "knows drama."
